Khao Lak is an area composed of several villages in the Takua Pa and Thai Mueang districts of Phang Nga Province, Thailand. “Khao Lak” means Lak Mountain, literally, referring to one of the main peaks in the mountainous region in the Khao Lak Lam Ru National Park.
Situated on the Andaman Sea, Khao Lak is approximately 100 kilometres north of Phuket within Phang Nga province. The area boasts pristine natural beauty, translucent waters and powder white sand beaches, flourishing marine life and outstanding diving and snorkelling. Khao Lak is not as cheap as the other popular destinations. Things would cost a bit more in Khal Lak than in Phang Nga city centre or Takua Pa. There is no hospital, so medical situations that are serious would have to be taken to Takua Pa or Phang Nga town.
